TwistyCube

How to Play

Controls, modes, and win conditions.

Turning the cube

Click or tap a cube face and drag — the direction you drag determines which layer turns and which way. Drag on empty space around the cube to orbit the camera and look at it from a different angle.

On a keyboard, the six faces are mapped to U D L R F B (Up, Down, Left, Right, Front, Back). Hold Shift while pressing a face key to turn it counter-clockwise instead.

Number, Colour and Word modes

Switch between modes at any time using the tabs at the top — your move count and timer keep running, they don't reset.

Number is the default: each face carries the digits 1–9. Colour plays like a traditional Rubik's Cube, with a single solid colour per face. Word replaces the faces with Scrabble-style letter tiles — type any word up to 6 letters into the box above the cube and press "Set Word" to load it in, as long as it's a real dictionary word.

Sequential vs Sudoku

These are the two win conditions, toggled next to the mode tabs — they decide what counts as "solved."

Sequential is the classic rule: every piece has to return to the exact spot and orientation it started in. Sudoku is looser — a face counts as solved the moment it shows each digit 1–9 exactly once, in any position, so pieces don't need to be back where they started. Sudoku mode only applies to the Number cube.

Scoring and the leaderboard

Your move count and timer start as soon as you scramble with "New Game" and stop the instant you solve. Solve it and you can submit your time to a public, no-accounts leaderboard with just a nickname (and an optional social handle) — filterable by mode so you're only compared against others playing the same way.

Tips for beginners

If you've never solved a real Rubik's Cube, start in Sudoku mode on the Number cube — it's far more forgiving since pieces don't need to return to their original spot. Once that feels comfortable, Sequential mode is the real challenge.
